About a Book, a Training Programme and Decision-Making

Saturday, 6 December 2025

Recently I have bought a book. I saw it in a bookshop window, and I knew right away I would buy it. It was a quick, easy decision – I knew the author, had read several of his books, and enjoyed each one. However, this is not about the book. This is about making decisions.

Recently I have bought a book. I saw it in a bookshop window, and I knew right away I would buy it. It was a quick, easy decision – I knew the author, had read several of his books, and enjoyed each one.

However, this is not about the book. This is about making decisions. In this case, it was an easy one because I already had enough previous experience to back it up, both in buying books and reading this author.

Well, taking easy and quick decisions does not happen all the time. At another recent occasion, I was offered the chance to buy a training programme that sounded too good to be true – it was going to make my life easier, save me hours of content creation, and put me at the forefront of people using innovative tools to be successful. And yet, I was hesitant. There was, of course, my previous experience with buying courses I have never finished, because it was not the right time for me to acquire this specific skill, or simply because it was not relevant to my present moment priorities. I have also felt a conflict with my values – the product requires significant amounts of energy and water for its operations, and I am a firm believer that we need to use both resources wisely. At the end, the decision was made, and I have not bought this programme.

Both stories are about the decisions we make and the choices we take.

Every decision we make, no matter how small, influences the direction of our lives. The accumulation of these choices creates a pattern that serves as a compass, guiding our path. What if we view each decision as a chance to learn, and remember that, with practice, our decision-making skills improve.

I am fascinated by the various aspects of the decision-making process: How do we make and take decisions? What makes some decisions quick and easy to take, and others seem complicated and take lots of time to research and make? What are the conscious and the unconscious processes behind the decisions we make? What can influence our decisions and choices to go in one direction or another? How many different questions can I write about decisions, choices, and related processes? Etc.

By creating this Blog, I invite you to come with me on a discovery expedition into the world of decisions. Every issue will bring a small element to increase your decision-making awareness and help you practice making quicker, easier, and better-informed decisions.
